If you are from an European country and going to the States, you gotta know that everybody will call you an erasmus student in your country. Nobody calls it an exchange program but just Erasmus. Get used to it.
I, a student from Turkey, was asked tons of questions about my nationality, country, religion and so on. Some people were really interested in these kinda international stuff, some of them were so conservative. But i didn't have any situations about that.
There are three semesters at NMU: fall, winter and summer. The best one is fall semester. Your first impressions are quite important to decide on if you like your life in Marquette. For me, it was not that easy to get used to the weather over there. It was so damn cold. 15th of January. Snow, snow and snow. If you don't have a car in Marquette or friends who have car, you are fucked up. Transportation in the city is so bad. But I did survive. So you can do it too. After a while you make some friends, and they all are helpful driving you somewhere. This won't be a big problem.
A little suggestion is to join All Nations Club at NMU. It's a social club that students from different countries and locals who are interested in different cultures attend. There are many events created so often. Classes are not hard but you've got tons of work to do even though they are easily affordable.
It's obvious that you improve your English and enhance youself at communication. You don't feel the real international athmophere as you do at Erasmus program. But still, this exchance program is much more precious than a usual Work and Travel program.
There is a semester break which is one-week-long. You can travel to cities close to Marquette like Chicago. And you get J1 visa, so after your last final exam, you get like one month more to leave the country. That means that you can travel around the country. So you have time for both education and travel.

Oncelikle daha once de Erasmus'a gittiyseniz bir daha degisim programina nasil katilabildiginizi herkese anlatmanizi gerektirecek bir durumdur. Hickimse buna exchange program demez, herkes erasmus der. Buna alismalisiniz.
Ben ve bir arkadasim Kadir Has Universitesi'nden o okula ilk gidenler oldugumuzdan hicbirsey bilmiyorduk. Tamamen koru korune gittik. En azindan bundan sonra benim okulumdan ya da baska yerlerden gidecekler olursa biraz bilgileri olsun diye, biraz da stajda bos zamanim oldugundan boyle bir baslik acmak istedim.
Gitmeden once yurt, vize, ucak bileti cart curt zaten bir sekilde ayarlayacaksiniz. Ben asil gidip gitmemenize karar verme asamasinda katkisi olur diye de birseyler yazacagim.
Oncelikle orada donemler bizdeki gibi fall spring summer degil; fall, winter, summer diye ayrildiginden sakin winter'da gideyim demeyin. Ben oyle yaptim, sikinti var. 15 Ocakta oraya gittim. Boyle bir soguk Litvanya'da bile yoktu. Yurttan cikmadan once 10 dakika icinde yapacaklarimi planliyordum ki hani yolu uzatmayim da daha fazla usumeyim vsvs. Kalin seyler goturmekte kesinlikle fayda var.
18 kredilik ders secme hakkiniz oluyor ama 18 orasi icin cok fazla. 14 normaldir mesela. Ders cakismasi olursa kesinlikle kabul edilmiyor. Surekli bir odev, proje, sunum vsvs asamasi oluyor. Goz korkutma amacli degil, gercekler bilinsin diye soyledigim seyler bunlar. Yani universite asamasi kesinlikle sikintili. Ama bir work and travel programindan kesinlikle daha kaliteli. Hayatta daha ciddi birseyler yapmak istiyorsaniz boyle bir degisim programina katilin derim. Ingilizcem kesinlikle degisti. Work and travel'a gitseydim muhtemelen gunluk kelimelerden oteye gecmeyecekti. CV'de de guzel gorundugunu soyleyebilirim. Oradayken donem ortasinda bir tatil oluyor. O arada Chicago'ya gitmistim bir haftaligina. Finallerin bitis tarihini vizenin de bitis tarihi olarak uyguluyorlar ama vizenin bitis tarihinden itibaren J vizesi aldiginiz icin bir ay icinde cikmaniz gerekiyor ulkeden. Yani gezmek isterseniz bir ay daha zamaniniz oluyor. Ben bir haftaligina Newyork'a gittim mesela. Daha da fazla gezilebilir kesinlikle. All nations club'a katilmanizi tavsiye ederim. All nations clubta iste diger ulkelerden gelen yabanci ogrenciler ve farkli kulturlerle ilgilenen Amerikanlar katiliyor, surekli aktiviteler oluyor.
